As a captive agent I went into every gunfight with one bullet in my gun. Being an independent agent, I now represent a number of top-rated carriers, making it easier for me to compete for business. It’s a huge win for me and my customers.
I joined Couri in 2003. At that time, I had been a direct writer for more than 10 years and needed more options for my clients, as well as a better way to do business. I found both with Couri. Since joining, my growth has been tremendous, and the carriers are true partners with my agency. Looking back, joining Couri was one of the best business decisions I have ever made.

Before I found Couri, I was with a group where the commission schedule was a lot less. They wanted to micro-manage and control my agency, which is located approximately 80 miles away. I left that group after eight years and hooked up with a local independent agency. Two years and $15,000 later, I discovered Couri. The people are so accommodating and pleasant to deal with. Jerry and Judie Couri are the most giving and wonderful people I have ever met, and Steve Woodworth is the best prince of a man that has EVER walked this earth. Couri makes it easy to serve my clients in many ways. For example, I do not have to be concerned with procuring agency contracts and meeting volume commitments. In other words, I can devote the majority of my time to selling insurance, providing value and servicing my clients. Couri also provides other things that many other agencies do not. Its commercial department is second to none, and its personal lines people stay up to date on which carriers are competitive for the occasional hard-to-place risks.
Its in-house technical support helps keep all Couri agencies on the cutting edge of computer technology, and the very informative agency meetings keep all agents abreast of what is happening in the insurance industry. Add to that the occasional continuing ed classes, and you can readily understand why Couri is the place to make a career in insurance. The fact that the individual agency receives their fair share of contingencies alone is a major reason why I have been associated with Couri for almost 27 years.
My dream was to open a family-owned independent insurance agency in my hometown. Partnering with Couri allowed me to make that dream a reality.
